With our relevant manufacturing assets (class 8 rooms, controlled environments) we are in a strong position to manufacture alginate nonwoven roll stock and finished dressings to high standards and in accordance with ISO 13485 and ISO 9001.
Alginate is a natural polymer and is derived from the cell-wall elements of brown seaweed. Alginates are heteropolysaccharides made up of mannuronic acid (M) and guluronic acid (G).
The physical properties of alginates, particularly absorption capability and wet gel strength, depends principally on the component ratio of the mannuronic acid and guluronic acids (M/G ratio). Alginates that contain a higher proportion of guluronic acid offer higher gel stability of absorbed fluid whereas those with a higher mannuronic acid content form an amorphous gel on fluid absorption. The seaweed species source and the procedures used for the alginic acid extracted from the seaweed, have direct influence on the specific alginate M/G ratio obtained. The extracted alginic acid is derived as a particulate sodium salt. Sodium Alginate is then further processed into fibre form, in which additional functionalities can be incorporated such as silver (Ag) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)
Alginate Products from Lantor
Alginate dressings absorb wound exudate and form a hydrophilic gel that covers the wound, thus maintaining a physiologically moist wound environment that fosters healing and the formation of granular tissue. As a result, alginate dressings are suitable for a wide range of wound types and are of particular benefits in chronic wounds that produces moderate to large volumes of exudate, e.g. pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers.
Through its global supply chain partnerships, Lantor is able to source a wide range of alginate fibre types and in-house process them through to roll stock and bespoke final dressing configurations.
