1. How absorbent in Gms per Cm2 is your product?
Sumar Max – 32.6 g/100cm2
Sumar Lite – 28.4 g/100cm2
2. What is the product made from?
The product is 100% polyester with an internal wicking layer made
from a polyester / cotton blend.
3. Does the product contain latex?
The protect does not contain Latex
4. What is the recommended wear time for this product?
Initially SUMAR may require daily dressing changes (this is because
it draws fluid out of the wound, unlike a foam for example which
will only absorb fluid), which may be increased to 3 or 4 days
as wound healing progresses. Wicks will require daily dressing
changes.
SUMAR may be left in situ for up to 7 days under compression bandages.
5. Have there been any recorded adverse reactions to this
product?
There are no recorded adverse reactions to this product
6. What are the indications for use?
SUMAR is a single use rapid capillary action dressing for use on
Acute & Chronic wounds with low to high levels of exudate such
as: - Pressure ulcers; Venous leg ulcers, Arterial leg ulcers;
Surgical and Traumatic wounds.
In addition because of the way the dressing draws fluid, it is
an ideal step down from negative pressure systems.
7. Does the product have any contraindications/cautions
to use?
SUMAR must not be used on patients with arterial bleeds, dynamic
vascular fungating wounds and heavy bleeding wounds.8. How is the
product applied
An aseptic technique should be used to remove SUMAR from the sterile
peel-apart pouch.
Apply dressing directly to the wound surface. It is recommended
that a non-adherent contact layer is utilised under SUMAR when
using compression bandages and when managing low exuding wounds,
necrotic wounds and wounds where bone and tendon is exposed.
SUMAR should be cut to the size and shape of the wound to ensure
maximum wound bed contact. Secure the dressing with a film dressing,
bandage or tape.
For heavily exuding wounds several layers of SUMAR may be utilised.
For Fistulae and Sinuses place the wick between two or more pieces
of SUMAR and cover.
9. Can it be cut or teased to size?
Sumar is cuttable.
10. Is there any possibility of fibre shed?
The fibres are all of equal length (approximately 10 cm) and woven
into the fabric, and treated to avoid fibre shed.
11. Is the product hypoallergenic?
Polyester is inert, and therefore no risk of allergy. In addition
there are no reported incidences of any allergic reactions to the
product.
12. Is there a risk of disintegration of the product in
use?
Sumar retains its strength when wet and therefore will not disintegrate
in use.
13. Does the product require a primary dressing?
It is recommended that a non-adherent contact layer is utilised
under SUMAR when using compression bandages and when managing low
exuding wounds, necrotic wounds and wounds where bone and tendon
is exposed.
14. Does the product require a secondary dressing?
Sumar will need to be secured with a film dressing, bandage or
tape. If using to help debride a film dressing must be used to
cover the product.
15. Is the product available on NHS supply chain and Drug tariff?
Sumar is a stocked item available through the NHS supply chain
and is available on Drug tariff from the 1st October.
